Retford Times review 26 Jun 2007

Attracting a lively crowd of more than 100 people on a wet friday night, Gaucho rocked Retford's Clinton Arms with their big sounds.

Gaucho a Retford band comprised of Marcus Shaw on lead vocals, Mark Lodge (Dodge) on guitar, Jason Ellis (Elge) on Bass and vocals, and Chris Barnacoat (Barney) making up the percussion section, have been gathered as a band since late 2004.

Playing all their own tracks, Gaucho raised spirits with their original story-telling recipe.

The soul-searching lyrics delivered by lead singer Marcus, fill a room, enticing the audience into his story and is complimented by the skilfully played mixture of rhythm, bass and percussion.

Their lead track, Well Remembered, was well received, as was one of their heavier tracks Drop Down. in which Marcus' powerful voice is fully recognised.

Gaucho are a memorable mix of a big stadium rock sound fused with funky beats.
Ending with Well Remembered, like the weather, Gaucho went down a storm.

Gaucho can be seen at Retford's Teen Fest and the Newcastle Arms Festival in July.

Retford Music review Dec 05

This is really good laid back rock that grooves. All six songs are different, but nicely keep the band's own individuality. The riffs and playing are as tight as a gnat's ass. They'd go down well in the US, where there's a lot of interest in this style which has nice arrangements and thoughtful performances.

I'm not going to single out any specific titles, but will say that I was impressed with the whole package, except that there weren't enough songs!!!

The lead singer's voice occasionally reminds me of Eddie Vedder, and sometimes of Neil Young. Yet the music itself is very reminiscent of American rock at present, with a crackingly tight rhythm section, and guitar utilising some great melodic chord inversions and amazing blues style solos.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys live.

Watch this space...
